PROCRASTINATION- THE GREATEST HINDRANCE TO SUCCESS

One of the greatest enemies of progress is Procrastination. Procrastination simply put is a psychological behavior that everyone has to one degree or the other. It is a friend to failure and Has led so many people down its path. It is the act of delaying, postponing, putting off especially habitually or intentionally. To some people it could be minor, while to some people it is source of considerable stress and anxiety. The degree at which different procrastinators procrastinate varies. Some people will leave undone some very important things relating to their career, life and even their future all in the name of “ I am busy right now, I will do it later” procrastination.

There are several behavioural characteristics of procrastination.

It leads to manipulation of some important things. What you need to do at the right time and left undone, by the time you start to rush to them, it can never be as you ought to do them. You will start manipulating your ways to get those things done before stipulated time.Procrastination.

It leads to failure. Most especially among we students. Many students have fine,well-planned personal timetable,but do not follow them just because of procrastination. Procrastination will discourage them from doing the assignment as at when due, go to classes on time, write a note in class and even go to the Library to read. It will keep telling them, ”why can’t you do it later, you still have more time” Hmnnnn, if you give your time to procrastination, you will end up with a regret of your action.

Note this, God bless everyone he created with a particular gift, 24 hours every day of your life. How are you  using your own gift? The unused time of yesterday cannot be added to today’s time. if you did not use your yesterday judiciously,  you cannot reuse or correct it today, you can only make the best use of your today. Avoid Procrastination, it kills, it delays, it waste time, it’s devastating and it’s deadly.

The major reason why people procrastinate

• Fear of how to get started, if I do it now, people will know am capable. Hmnnn, why can’t you  screw up and see the benefit you will obtain from doing it.  There is nothing one do in  life that one will not benefit from, whether good or bad. You will always learn from that thing. Start now and get it done.
• The desire to have everything done perfectly. Rome was not built in the day. Perfection is not a day work. Start from somewhere, the journey of a thousand mile start with a step, get started, avoid procrastination.
• Avoidance. A situation whereby you don’t want to do a particular thing at a particular time just because of the presence of some people. You don’t want to read with some set of people, you then procrastinate .
• Hardened heart. To some people, their heart is so hardened that, even when they know the right thing to do, they will never do it until probably when they find it difficult to do such thing again.
• Time management. Inefficient time management is a major factor why people procrastinate. If you cannot use your time effectively, procrastination is inevitable for you.
• Fear of failure. This is common among student. The course you are supposed to offer now, just because the course is difficult, you shift your evil days forward. Procrastination.

• Prayerful
• Hardworking
• Determined

8 Factors You Really Need to Consider Before You Make Any Big Decision

Last year I participated in a 12-month coaching training program, and here’s the most interesting thing I learned: The key to making better life and business decisions is actually pretty simple—you need to ask yourself better questions.
When you live a super fast-paced life, it’s easy to be consumed with inventing and creating and doing stuff all the time. Because of that, when it comes to working, you’re efficient and streamlined, and your productivity is through the roof. But you know what you (and the rest of us humans) typically aren’t so great at? Noodling. Marinating. Pondering.

And that’s an important skill when it comes to big life decisions. In order to make smart, informed choices, you need to be able to logically think and emotionally feel through your options from several different angles before actually deciding.
If you’re on the cusp of making a big decision—like whether to accept a job you’ve been offered or introduce a new product to the market—here are eight factors you can use to help you evaluate your options, inspired by Tony Stoltzfus’ book, Coaching Questions: A Coach’s Guide to Powerful Asking Skills.

1. Rationality

First, run this decision through the rational, analytical part of your brain. Make a list of the pros and cons of your options. If you’re making a decision about whether to take a new job, for example, you might list “more money” as a pro and “less time at home” as a con.

2. Intuition

When you find yourself wavering between multiple options, your intuition is one of your most powerful decision-making tools. To hone in on your gut feeling, stop for a moment and don’t think about anything else. Simply sit in a quiet place for a few minutes and reflect on the decision. What feelings bubble up? Happy ones? Or the heebie-jeebies?

3. Relationships

Whether you’re married or single, have kids or don’t have kids, live by yourself or with six roommates, your decisions affect the people closest to you. To help you weigh the decision you’re about to make, think about how the decision would affect those around you.
For example, would the new job mean less time at home with your partner? Or would it mean your husband could quit his job because of the pay increase?

4. Alignment

You want any decision you make to be aligned with your passions, values, and priorities—or I guarantee it’s not going to feel like you made the right choice. But before you can figure out if the decision is in alignment with the things that mean the most to you, you first need to get clear about what those passions, values, and priorities are. Then, make a list of all the ways your decision aligns (or doesn’t align) with them.

5. Counsel

You’re clear about how your decision will affect other people in your life. But what do those same people think about how the decision you’re about to make will affect you? Talk to your partner, family, friends, colleagues, and mentors about your options. What do they think?

6. Negative Drivers

A lot of times, people make decisions based on fear. Maybe you’re afraid you’re not ever going to find a job you’re really thrilled about, so you take the one you feel less passionate about because you already have the job offer in hand—it’s a sure thing. Or, maybe you’re afraid no one is going to sign up for your company’s first conference, so you postpone it a year.
What fears are playing into your decision? You don’t have to solve for them all right now, but understanding how your fears are affecting your decisions will help you evaluate your options more objectively.

7. Cost

While money may not be the ultimate driver in many decisions, it’s an important factor to consider. How does your decision affect your finances? What resources will you need to execute on your decision? What would this decision cost in terms of time?
For example, if you’re the founder of a business and you’re deciding whether or not to introduce a new product to the marketplace, how much would it cost to build the product? Would you need to hire a team of one or 10? How much of your own time would you need to devote to successfully getting the product built and out into the world?

8. Risk and Reward

Finally, think about the risks associated with your options. What’s the safest decision? What’s the riskiest one? Are there any steps you could take to minimize the risk of that option? And then, on the other side, what are the potential rewards of each option? Sometimes the extra risk is worth the reward.

It’s really hard to slow down when you’re used to doing things at a million miles an hour. To make sure you actually give yourself the space to work through your options with these considerations, I suggest giving yourself a deadline to make your decision by. That way, the nagging part of your brain—and anyone waiting on your decision, like a potential employer—will know there’s a decision date in sight, giving yourself the time to explore your options and pick the best, truest one.

Today’s topic is “Start Your Success Journey”. May I quickly remind you of this common scriptural verse of the bible, Prov 23:7…For  as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he. The scriptural verse made us to know that whatsoever your mind thinketh, that surely determines your life. Every of your steps in life is controlled by your heart, keep renewing your mind to the path of wisdom.

What is Success?

Success according to English dictionary is the achievement of one’s aim or goal. Success is one who achieve his assumed goals. Success is not measured based on the amount you have in your bank account, neither is it measured based on the numbers of properties you have acquired. But rather living a life of purpose. Success is defining your purpose in life, your vision and mission in life, assessing yourself at every point in time and making every dream comes through. Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it flows the issues of life (Prov 4:23). Let every of your thought be on how you will be successful in life, how you can influence life, how you can make people happy and bless the generations to come.

If after you are no more, what will happen to the next generations to come?  What will people say about you? What impact will they fill (positive or negative)? Friend, it is high time you started your success journey today. Set up the standard you want for your life, decide on what you want to achieve in the next 7 years of your life. Be Prayerful, Hardworking and Determined and you will surely have them done. Here is a template on how to start your success journey today, make a list of all that will help you get to where you are going and put a time frame e.g.

My To-achieve-list between years 2017-2024

To achieve list	Year
Obtain WAEC form	2017
Obtain JAMB form	2018
Gain admission into the university	2019
Obtain B.Sc degree in physics	2023
Enroll for NYSC	2024
Start working in a reputable company	2024

That is just a template for a secondary school student who wants to become a physicist. Those are the list of the things he wants to achieve in the next 7seven years of his life. Make a list of your own now and work on this three major principle which I give the acronym PhD.

·         Prayer:-Everything needs prayer. You need to pray to your creator, he who is able to do exceedingly, abundantly more than you can even think of. Have faith and it’s going to work out well. Even though challenges will come your way, your creator will take charge of all those challenges and then everything work out well for you.

·         Hardworking: - “Every wish list are not always achieved”. There are millions of WISH LIST of different kinds which are just there. Those wish list, you only wish you have them but are not really important to you always. You have to make your success a priority and NOT wish. You need to work hard on the necessary things that will help you achieve your goal.

·         Determination: - Your determination is very important to achieving your set goals.” lay aside all distractions and focus on your success journey. You need to be determined, no matter what the challenges might be, you must be successful.

If you can do all this, you are on the right path of your Success Journey. Dear friend, “the starting point is to take your future into your hands”. You must access your current situation and be determined where you want to be. Then start the journey, be focus, you will soon be among the elites. Remain blessed.
